AMD Dual-Core Optimizer

March 23rd, 2007 / No Comments » / by Chris

AMD Dual-Core Optimizer - The AMD Dual-Core Optimizer can help improve some PC gaming video performance by compensating for those applications that bypass the Windows API for timing by directly using the RDTSC (Read Time Stamp Counter) instruction. Applications that rely on RDTSC do not benefit from the logic in the operating system to properly account for the affect of power management mechanisms on the rate at which a processor core’s Time Stamp Counter (TSC) is incremented. The AMD Dual-Core Optimizer helps to correct the resulting video performance effects or other incorrect timing effects that these applications may experience on dual-core processor systems, by periodically adjusting the core time-stamp-counters, so that they are synchronized.

GSM customisation suite

March 14th, 2007 / No Comments » / by Chris

http://www.egolatras.com/GSMsuite/finish/crew.png

In the year 2006, the Customize.org community was in turmoil — between squabbles over leadership, a decline in both the quality and quantity of submissions, and a general unease, it hardly resembled the Custo innumerable members had grown to love. It was clear the community could not continue like this. Something had to be done.

Enter Gypsy Space Muffin. Here was a place free of the constraints of Custo. A place where an already close-knit group of people could grow even closer, all the while welcoming new members into the fold. What was once Tab’s (aka colossus72) personal portfolio site had blossomed into a community all its own, with a user base free of the cynicism bred by other sites. The growth was staggering; from the early days of ten or twenty members to the current 170-plus, one thing has remained constant: camaraderie. New friendships have been formed; old friendships have been strengthened.

And, now, with the release of the GSM suite, a new zenith has been reached. The Customize community’s finest artists, working en masse to craft skins and themes for the most popular applications, all done in the inimitable style of the Gypsy Space Muffin forums. From all of us at GSM, we hope you enjoy using this suite as much as we enjoyed making it.

GSM - Welcome to the Underground:

Windowblinds 5.5

March 14th, 2007 / No Comments » / by Chris

Stardock released WindowBlinds 5.5 today. WindowBlinds is a program that enables users to customize the look and feel of the graphical user interface of Microsoft Windows. By applying “skins”, WindowBlinds can change title bars, borders, push buttons, scroll bars, the taskbar, the Start menu and virtually every element of the Windows environment. Thousands of different skins exist and can be created using a free program called SkinStudio.

WindowBlinds 5.5 is a major update in that it is the first program to allow users to change the look and feel of Windows Vista. Thanks to a new technology called “SmartSkinning”, WindowBlinds allows skins created for Windows XP to be used to skin Windows Vista. WindowBlinds 5.5 then transforms the skin, on-the-fly, to conform to the new user interface conventions of Windows Vista to give it a distinctly Windows Vista look and feel. Users of .msstyles files on Windows XP can use SkinStudio to convert their favorite .msstyles to WindowBlinds 5.5 to run natively on Windows Vista.
