Overclocking the Vario

July 31st, 2006 / No Comments » / by Chris

I’ve been overclocking my vario now for 7 months.

I use the shortcut method to speed up slow apps. It works especially well with games and TomTom….. I usually set my clock speed to 250Mhz, (from 180Mhz stock)

Works a treat, just dont go too high with the clock speed :)

check the instructions out here

Removing T-Mobile branding from the Vario

July 7th, 2006 / No Comments » / by Chris

tip of the day! :)

to remove the crappy T-mobile branding from the vario, simply take a sugar cube, and rub the logo in the direction of the “brushed” grain of the aluminium. The “T-mobile” and “MDA Vario” text should be removed in under 2 mins.

The “T-zones” badge on the upper right function button however requires a little more work, but keep at it and it too will be removed from the device.

I have to say, i much prefer the de-badged look. I’ll post some piccies soon.

Using WM2003 .tsk theme files on WM5

June 12th, 2006 / No Comments » / by Chris

after some fiddling about, i sort of managed to get .tsk files to install under WM5.

Copy the .tsk file to the My Documents folder on the device. Now go into the today settings, and select the .tsk from the theme selector. Once selected, press OK and exit the today settings.

Now, make a copy of the .tsk, leaving the existing file in the my docs folder, then, put the copy somewhere else, i.e. storage card and rename it as .cab.

Now, double click the cab and install it.

Then go back to the today screen settings and DO NOTHING on the theme selector tab (it should still be set to the .tsk file you selected earlier). Now, click the items tab and then ok, some magic should happen and you should end up with at least most of the theme (some bits dont work on wm5) :)

Set keyboard backlight timeout to 30 secs

May 17th, 2006 / 2 Comments » / by Chris

; Set keyboard backlight timeout to 30 seconds
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Backlight]
“QKeyLedTimeout”=dword:0000001e

…this should keep the keyboard illuminated for 30 seconds…. (instead of the stupid 3 second default!) :)
