Neowin.net - Where unprofessional journalism looks better
A consortium of media companies including Alcatel-Lucent, Best Buy, Cisco, Comcast, Fox, HP, Intel, Lions Gate, Microsoft, NBC Universal, Paramount Pictures, Philips, Sony, Toshiba, VeriSign and Warner Bros plan to create a digital video ‘ecosystem’. This new digital framework, essentially an online virtual storage library containing a digital rights locker, would be in direct contrast to Apple’s iTunes vendor-based model. The consortium will call itself Digital Entertainment Content Ecosystem (or DECE) and their goal is to create an “uniform digital media experience”. More specifically, it would give the media producers more control over the media rather than leaving that in the domain of online retailers like Apple.

Delicious Minimal House Grooves
After an absence of far too long, Benfay makes a welcome return to Thinner. His last appearance on the netlabel was in January 2005 when he teamed up Irish singer Alice Mackay on the “Lighthouse EP” [THN068] delivering four tracks of vocal minimal house. Now, two and one-half years later, he’s back with “Born on a Houseboat” where the houseboat is a metaphor for a “floating community sharing a love for one style of music.” The style here is nearly a half-an-hour’s worth of delicious beat-laden grooves and urbane minimal house contained in four tracks.

noticed bjork used this at Glastonbury this year, a bit of investigation leads to….

The reactable is a collaborative electronic music instrument with a tabletop tangible multi-touch interface. Several simultaneous performers share complete control over the instrument by moving and rotating physical objects on a luminous round table surface. By moving and relating these objects, representing components of a classic modular synthesizer, users can create complex and dynamic sonic topologies, with generators, filters and modulators, in a kind of tangible modular synthesizer or graspable flow-controlled programming language.
